An article recently published in Cell’s website has shed some light on a study about the neutralization of betacoronaviruses using single-domain camelid antibodies. Llamas were used as the testing analog and immunized with stabilized betacoronavirus spike proteins, which resulted in their antibodies binding to these proteins, which effectively neutralizes both MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-1 S pseudotyped viruses. They also have cross-reactivity with SARS-CoV-2 S pseudotyped viruses, which shows promise for the development of effective therapeutics against coronaviruses. We’ll see how this progresses.
